Sprouting calabrese "Sebastian" (Broccoli).
An early ripe variety that is grown both in spring and autumn. Heads are tied already after 30-40 days, and in autumn after 45-50 days.
The variety is unique in that dense dark green inflorescences do not outgrow and do not crack. The diameter of the inflorescences is 10-15 cm.
After cutting the main head, lateral ones begin to grow, with a diameter of 4-5 cm, which is harvested until stable frosts.
Variety value: early maturity, the high nutritional value of both main and additional heads, grows well in any type of soil.
Agrotechnics of cultivation is the same as cauliflower.
Broccoli is grown both in seedlings and without seedlings. The most optimal time for sowing seeds for seedlings in cups with soil or peat tablets: beginning - mid-April.
1,0 g = 250-300 seeds.
The optimum temperature for seedlings is + 18 + 19 °C during the day, + 6 + 7 degrees at night. The seeding depth is 1.5-2 cm, the distance between plants is 4x4 cm.
Sprouts begin to appear on the 6-7th day. Picking is usually done at the stage of 1-2 true leaves. Seedlings are planted at a permanent place at the age of 50-55 days, planting pattern 65 x 65 cm.
Care consists of watering, weeding, loosening and fertilizing. Feeding is recommended no more than 3 times during the growing season. The first two top dressings are applied at the seedling stage, the last one is carried out at the beginning of intensive head formation. Water this crop as needed.
The central head reaches a mass of up to 200 g. 5-8 days after cutting, heads of the second-order appear. Usually, they are darker green in colour, but in cold or hot weather they take on a brownish-purple hue.
Seeds are sown in the ground in three terms, starting from the first decade of May. The distance between rows is 60 cm, between plants 20-30 cm. 10 days after planting the seedlings, and also before the formation of heads, broccoli must be fed.
The best predecessors are early cucumbers, legumes, onions, root crops, annual herbs.
Broccoli is highly nutritious. Its chemical composition is richer than that of cauliflower. It contains sugar, nitrogen, protein, as well as carotene, ascorbic acid, vitamin E, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and magnesium. Broccoli does not lose its dietary, nutritional and taste qualities even after freezing.
Broccoli protein contains cholinemethionine, which prevent the accumulation of cholesterol in the body. The plant also has anti-sclerotic properties.
